Northwestern State University faculty and students gathered around campus flagpoles to commemorate the 14th anniversary of 9/11. The ceremony began at 8:46 a.m., the time when the first hijacked plane, American Airlines Flight 11, hit the north tower of the World Trade Center. Planners envisioned a silent ceremony to allow participants to “Internalize the moment for each person and possibly make them think back to where they were at that moment” said Captain John Welch, professor of military science at NSU.
